Niagara Falls from the Canadian side at night
Continuing on the multi part series of pictures from East Coast USA in the Fall of 2012

After getting up at 6am, driving through the Adirondacks in the morning, then the Finger Lakes Region for sunset, I kept going and going like an energizer bunny until I got to Niagara Falls at around 11pm. It was freeeeezing (literally below freezing temperature) and I didn't bring gloves, duh.

The American Falls and the bridge connecting USA/Canada

Absolutely gorgeous with the artificial lights they put on at night. It is quite magical, but also slightly gnarly in a way

Like a watery furnace, love it :)

They change the color of the lights every 10 minutes or so... so I stood there (no gloves, remember?) and took 3 pictures and put them together in photoshop for this composite color view.
Sometimes I wonder if all my effort really means anything, haha. But once I see a picture in my head I want it!
HDR works great for the crazy night scene here. The light trails makes it look like northern lights, very cool :)

As a side note, the mist rising from the falls hang around for a few minutes, then condense and rain/snow right back down. I got soaked walking through it, it's hmmm, invigorating?! More like ****ing freezing!

beautiful! :3
Is that a shooting star in the first picture?
I also thought it was a pretty unique idea to watch you did with number 5.
These are really amazing!
Wow. I'm stealing the composite colour pic! Haha It's so dreamy and magical! ^_^
@my_palimpsest - haha took that picture when I was chatting with you on the phone remember? :)
Kudos to you for braving the cold. It seems totally worth it, though.
@XtremePsionic - Yes, I do remember. ^_^
@PorcelainDoll_xo - Thanks :) I love Canada, we've got so many pretty places. They're just all very far away from each other :)
@Foodhog - naw, just a plane. Glad you like that picture :) Took me 25 minutes to take it, haha
@XtremePsionic - I totally agree with that. Also Ontario has some really stunning old builds. :3
@TutelageOfTheMundane - yeah I quite like them, especially the orange ones. Thanks for the kind words!
I've not been to Niagara Falls for several years -- it's a gorgeous place, and these are beautiful photos of it!
Never been there, but your pics capture it well.
Well, I now know a new destination for my new Nikon D3100 DSLR. I have a long way to go in terms of ability, but I'll get there. 'Twould take me an hour and a half to get to Niagara Falls. I haven't been there for quite some time.
Nice pics. Proof I have a long way to go.
wow! well captured!
I like your scenes with the American side and the bridge. You made it look beautiful. However I remember when I was there in person, being more impressed with the larger Canadian side. I also like your behind the falls pic. I remember sticking my hand in the water back aways, knowing it would eventually rush over the edge. I'm surprized noone ran out to stop me from getting close to the water like that. I could've fallen in. Maybe they figured if I was stupid enough to fall in, I'd deserve it. IDK.
beautiful photos! I like the second to the last pic the most!
I've never been to the Niagra Falls at night so I've never seen such scenes when I was there. I loved going to these area. :)
Breathtaking pictures!
It's been awhile since I've visited the Falls. The "watery furnace" (nice description) and the second last photo are my favorites. Thanks for freezing your hands off to take these pics.
great stuff!
I've only seen the Falls from the US side. They are so beautiful, especially at night.
@slmret - @ccrider17 - @CanuckFascist - @mich_yap - @Crystalinne - @dawn_1o9 - @changes_like_e_weather - @ElusiveWords - @SarahakaHungry - @TakingxOverxMe - @Lithium98 - Thanks everyone :) Hope you like the sunrise pictures from today too. After doing this night/sunrise thing, I think the only thing left for me to do at Niagara falls is ride down it in a barrel, haha.
@XtremePsionic - If you do decide to go down the Falls in a barrel, would you be kind enough to take pics on your way down?
Just stunning! I want to go! :)
Stunning! You take such lovely pictures!! :)
