Day 12 - Oregon and Washington
2008 Summer Road trip to Northwest USA and Canada
Trip duration: 15 days (May 9th to 23rd)
Total distance: 9000km/5560miles
Camera: Canon 40DLenses: 12-24mm f4 wide angle, 45mm f2.8 Tilt Shift, 70-200mm F2.8 IS, 105mm f2.8 Macro
The original plan for the day was to visit Crater Lake, Newberry Volcanic Monument and Mount St Helens... however the entire day was crap due to the fact that the clouds were low and it was rainy as hell. So all I got to see when I went to the three mountain tops were... clouds.
How unfortunate, all 3 destinations would have been amazing if it wasn't for the weather... I must go back again some day!
1. On the way up to Crater Lake

2. An amazingly quiet place on a weekday morning in early summer... soon I'll find out why it's so damn quiet!

3. Almost looks like a road out of a video game!

4. Vroommmmmmm

5. And as I drove higher... it became apparent that I'm at the wrong place at the wrong time...

6. The "cloud line"

7. Crater Lake Visitor's center... If it wasn't for the cloud cover maybe I would have seen the lake, but then again, it's probably still frozen xD

8. Down at the bottom of the hill again

9. Good bye lake (up in the clouds), I'll come back next time later in the year...

10. Had to take a nap to vent my frustration, while taking a nap I thought the water droplets looked pretty cool with the trees reflected in them :)

11. Driving near the Volcanic monument, which was also under cloud cover so I didn't even bother stopping.

12. And I was idiotic enough to drive right through Portland, should have visited the city when the weather's crappy...

13. Instead I came up to Mt St Helens... right, more clouds, and fallen trees on the road!

14. The only saving grace for the day were the awesome wet twisties, it was rather slippery with wet leafs/sand/twigs, had the car oversteer wildly a couple of times going like 60mph :D (yes, in a front wheel drive, haha!)

15. Trees

16. More wet trees

17. Like a dreamy tunnel at the foot hills of Mt St Helens

18. More wet trees

19. These roads sure were fun :) 50% of the reason why I go on road trips :D

20. With nothing else to see, I had to make do with the MINI being my photography subject

21

22. Pepper grinder wheels :)

23. Oh Mt St Helens... how I wish I could actually see you

24. And sadly, without seeing a single thing that day, I went to my friend's place near Seattle. (and if you haven't noticed, yes I love the Mini :D )

Cool i wish i was going with
those reflection shots were amazing.
i'd love to get lost there...
for some reason, it reminds me of Silent Hill (the movie O_O)
kick ass.
:( bad weather!
MINI's so cute and lovely, how I like to hold it in my hand :)
The pictures reflected certain sentiments ... and I like it too ...
Love pics 1, 3, 8 and especially no. 10, "the water droplets with reflections ..."
Awww...but regardless of the crappy weather you had, the pix turned out great still. Too bad you didn't get to see what you came there to see. Better luck next time.
Yes, the game <The Need for Speed>
The cloudy photos are still very beautiful.. I like shots like that
i like the dreaminess of 3, 10, 17 and all the wet trees. squishy and moist like sponges.
i wonder who lived in 8 and what's it like living in 9.
I'm very much loving your road trip photos. I really like the post processing for 1,2, 17, and 20. Keep it coming man. I would love to do that kind of road trip if I ever get free from my bondage called work.
saw you on my feed. decided to check your site out. i love your pictures! :)
I think you could get your road trip photos bound and/or published. they're awesome.
