Day 11 - Redwoods National Forest, California
2008 Summer Road trip to Northwest USA and Canada
Trip duration: 15 days (May 9th to 23rd)
Total distance: 9000km/5560miles
Camera: Canon 40DLenses: 12-24mm f4 wide angle, 45mm f2.8 Tilt Shift, 70-200mm F2.8 IS
Ever smelt heaven?
How the air, cleaned by thousand year old trees, just rushes into your lungs and dance inside
How the cool and damp molecules, cleans your blood like some giant filter, breath by breath
How your skin awakens, your eye softens, as the moisture calms your senses and slows you down
This is what heaven smells like
Humboldt Redwoods State Park:
The two thousand year old coastal redwoods, standing over 300 feet tall, towers over the little Mini Cooper

The little guy, so young and small in comparison, yet, so much more dangerous, so much more capable of dealing out damage

The forest makes one slow down, tread quietly, speak silently... it is the earth's true church, a place of worship, a place to celebration of life and time

So small it actually fit inside on of the trees! This is one of the two trees in California where a car can drive into in these forests. I had to pay $2 but the picture was well worth it :D

Like my tree colored outfit that day?
no, neither did I

It's amazing how a tree with such a large gaping hole in the middle can still be living.

Like little pests killing a giant
Here's me hugging one of the tallest tree in the world

One could almost live in one of these trees, in fact, lots of insects and birds do

It's fun to imagine how a small seedling grew from the ground 2 thousand years ago, through all the rain and storms, the competitions of other trees and living things around it, fighting for its own chance to grow tall and old.

There's magic in the forest, I wouldn't have been surprised if fairies came flying out :P

But no fairies came, only centipedes :D

And then I came out of the forest and headed for Oregon. On the way I stopped by a little strip mall and, being a 5 year old kid at heart, stopped beside a red and white fire truck for some pictures :D
Next: Oregon coasts, Seattle

I have no idea why I liked this post so much. maybe it's because I'm a tree-hugger?
The car and the owner are starting to look similar...in too many ways.
