  • Summer Road Trip 2008 - San Francisco downtown | Part 2 of 2

Day 9 - San Francisco downtown, California
2008 Summer Road trip to Northwest USA and Canada

Trip duration: 15 days (May 9th to 23rd)
    Total distance: 9000km/5560miles

    Camera: Canon 40D
    Lenses: 12-24mm f4 wide angle, 45mm f2.8 Tilt Shift, 105mm f2.8 macro

    Bustling with life and colors
    Cities within city walls

    Sky scrapers standing tall
    Over crumbling and fading walls

A bay full of laughter and sun
Back alleys of drugs and guns

When all's been said and done
SF's the place to visit, it's so much fun :D

(hah sorry for the lame poem, continue to the pics please)

The famous Alcatraz prison (Alcatraz pics coming tomorrow, promise! :)

I walked the streets of china town
From mid day til sun down
    Foreign lands with familiar sounds
Home away from home, I've found :)

SF's chinatown obviously doesn't resemble anything in Hong Kong or china, it is like an artistic representation of something real. Still, it reminded me of the markets in Mong Kwok, HK

Who wants to go get some cocktail in some weird chinese cave?! Hahaha

Kid: Mommy Mommy, can I buy that panda hat for halloween?

Actually no, I can't imagine any kids who would wish to dress up like that for halloween....

So Chinese market like, with clothes on wires furling and unfurling in the afternoon wind

Buy this, 10 dalla, good deal!

I was thirsty so I got myself a mango bubble tea :D I actually got to order something speaking chinese, yay :D

There were some classical chinese music coming out of the door of that place. The sounds of a bunch of Yi Wu really transported me out of America and back into China :D

I can't help but laugh at the translation of "uncle restaurant". It's a phonic translation, and it sounds like "Un goo restaurant" :P

Who names their restaurant Uncle anyway, lol!

These streets are so steep, my ankles were starting to wear out by hour 3 of walking around SF

Imagine the chaos one could create with a bunch of bowling balls mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Nice houses, I loved the designs! I like how they're all the same but colored so differently, like a coloring sheet done by different kids :D But you'd think with the insanely high prices of property in SF, that people must be making huge amounts of money, and they'd not be driving civics and saabs.

I was reminded of Jay Leno XD

    Just a glance
out of the corner of his eyes

    Just a second
then it's again seeps out of mind

I guess, with SF being so nice and warm, there are bound to be more homeless people than places like Calgary.
I don't know what to say, I am not a person with a lot of compassion or love for strangers. However, everyone's got their own story and reason why they are where they are.

And on a lightpost closer to the same homeless person

    Someone's posting a $1500 reward for a lost bird.

Did someone post a $1500 reward for finding this homeless person I wonder? Does he have family and friends who cares?

Yeah right, if that works I'm gonna start writing messages like:
"Sorry the car ran out of gas, please don't ticket me!"
"Sorry I was too busy carrying the 13 shopping bags for my girlfriend and didn't have a spare hand to pay for the parking meter, please don't ticket me!"

Another heart in SF downtown. We had similar stuff like that in Calgary years ago, but with cows :D

    A couple enjoying the sunshine.......

......... and I'm sorry I can't help but notice where she put her hand

A taiwanese culture awareness celebration of some kind. Awesome drumming.

Seriously, those are some STEEP stairs.
If you wear gloves I bet it'll be fun to slide down along using the handrails :D

I could smell the heart attack from here!

At the UN square. How ironic, all those messages of peace, of learning from past lessons engraved on the ground, and on the other side of the world... all those frigging wars.....

    America like their domes

    Hey look, hippies!!!

I knew I'd find them in SF! :D

It must be great in there........ :D

Honestly I forgot if they were lining up for the club or something else, from the way they dress I'm quite sure it's something else, haha.

The large amount of humans scared this Canadian a little bit :P

SF seems like such an entertained city, boats and sights and shops and activities!

And as the sun went down

    The air chilled
    The crowds thinned

It was time to go get some rest :)
