Summer road trip 2008 - Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah, MINI Cooper - Day 6 of 15
Day 6 Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah
Trip duration: 15 days (May 9th to 23rd)
Total distance: 9000km/5560milesDay 6 part 2: Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah
Bryce Canyon is one of the most photographed parks in the world. It is located in southern Utah not far from Arizona. This was one of the main attraction for the road trip. I've read and saw pictures of Bryce from various photo magazines and tutorials, and the name Bryce holds a special place in my heart.
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and my pictures turned out rather horribly. I got there just before sunset, but the clouds prevented any sunlight from creating the trademark dramatic shadows that Bryce is famous for.. Here they are...
This is coming up from Escalante, a long stretch of uphill twisties. I wish I could show you the full resolution version of this picture, as every single crack of the pavement could be seen!
Entering Bryce

At sunset point. The hundreds of pillars have hiking trails through them. I must come back on a better day some day...
Such strangely shaped rocks and trees alike

This place is infested with photographers :P One could see the allure of such an amazing landscape. On the other hand, I personally like to be somewhere without other people trying to do the same things.

A little bit of sunlight peeking through, I could just imagine how dramatic the whole valley would look if the weather was nicer.

The evening wind blew hard but Lucas didn't want to leave, so as the sun set and the sky turned a pale purple and blue, I braved the chill and took more pictures.

They remind me of faceless soldiers of long forgotten wars
Like other national parks, tamed "wild" animals were abound

And so I left Bryce somewhat disappointed, but took out my frustration by squealing more tires down the Canyon :P
Next stop, Zion National Park (last of the rocky parks! no more boring rocks soon!), past Las Vegas, and the famously scorching hot Death Valley National park
footnote: Li-Ann, I blame the lack of better pics on You :P I could have woken up early the next day and gone back there for sunrise pics, but You insisted on a lovely phonecall instead xDGo back to previous road trip entries....

Way to capture texture.
lovee the natural patterns and shapes :D
they look like seashells ^w^
I like saving your wide panorama shots; they make good wallpapers rofl xDD
i remember going there....soo amazing.
those pillars remind me of ashy tombstones, or rather, the deepest underworld... where death crawls and all those hellacious peoples have only the barren desert peaks to rest on. hmmm.
some scenes are like piled-up puzzles. that 's masterpiece of nature. thank you.
Fantastic pic as usual!
I agree to your point...sometimes not feeling comfortable when too many photographers there. I can take pic at my Best Can Do only when I'm alone and calm...
Lucas, you are lucky in seeing only one photographer who hardly block your scene in your viewfinder!
@new_paul - lol I just didn't bother taking more pics of them. When I say "infested" I mean there's like 20 of them out there :P
haha nice try blaming me but You were an equally willing accomplice xP
Even though they didn't turn out as you'd wished Luca... the photos are still awesome and the colours are just beautiful. It is nice to imagine that even after humanity is no more (and there is a possibility of this) that these beautiful places will endure without us.
@akashapeace - but what is beauty without a beholder
@XtremePsionic - Oh really... In HK the number can be 200 lol
Still good pictures
