USA Road trip 2008 - Day 3 (2 of 2) - Yellowstone National park
Trip duration: 15 days (May 9th to 23rd)
Total distance: 9000km/5560miles
Continuing on with day three, this is Tower falls in Yellowstone National Park, taken with the 45mm tilt shift lensLiquidy tower crumbles and falls
Liquidy power of might and awe
Liquidy drops of purity raw
Lquidy liquid called Tower Falls
Near Tower Falls there was a huge gathering of people and cars, because of this mother bear and her 2 cubs!Searching, sniffing, finding
Digging, smelling, hoping
Seeing, touching, munching
Chewing, eating, living
The bear didn't really care about people around her, but some park wardens were there to keep people away from it anyway.Closer and closer
We're not afraid
Clearer and clearer
We surveyed
Nearer and Nearer
We've both strayed
"that's close enough" goes the park warden
"okay, okay! :P
I actually found these photographers with their various 300-800mm lens more interesting to look at than the bears. I've never seen so many people with huge lenses all gathered at the same place before.
Haul around a telescope
Hunting
Hungrily searching
For a gimpse, a shadow, an ear, a nose, ANYTHING
"baby bear, come out so we could capture you
baby bear, come out so we could make money off of you!"nothing wrong with making $ off pics, obviously, I mean, if I spent $5000 to $20000 on ONE lens I'd probably be like them too...

A close up look of the mother bear
While everyone's looking at the bears, I thought the cliff side right behind me was so very interesting. Sometimes, when there are too many interesting things to look at, we ignore something we normally consider remarkable. Which is a shame.
Out in the distance, far enough away that I've had 5 people ask me "Can you see what those white specks are with your camera?" Mountain goats enjoying their time on the cliff side.Living dangerously
On the edge of destiny
Is it pure insanity?
Or merely genes and biology
Living life dangerously
Living life instinctively
The rain was about to fall, and it didn't seem too excited about the prospect of being soaked.A house, a shelter they lack
Only a coat of fur on their backs
Living freely has its drawbacks
Roaming freely in Bison packs
Death of one self frees our soul
Death is merely one story told
My dead body now home of a million mold
Life of an individual just one of the stories told...
A magpie standing on an Elk
searching for ticks and insects to eat
Don't seem like a very yummy diet
Crackers seems better :)
A beautiful natural staircaseStairs to heaven?
Stairs for no one
Stairs for demons?
Stairs, for no one
On the way out of the park I saw more Bisons, this time with babies!Sometimes, I can't help but think about why we generally find mammal babies more cute than say, insect babies. I think, the closer we are to the same evolutionary branch of life, the more our brains are wired the same way, so the more likely it is we find something adorable or cute.
Just a random thought.

They seem to have no fear of cars, in fact, they treat them as invisible objects...Are you sick of Bison pictures yet?
I am, sorta... :P They are cool but, geez, there's just so many of them in the parkBear with me
No, bison with me for a bit more :P
Madison geyshersCloudy, windy, chilly, smelly, and I was the ONLY one there. I guess you have to be a photographer to brave the wind just to see some frigging holes on the ground blowing steam...
Yellow Funnel Spring
Bubbling soup, smells kind of like rotting tomato
So much death and steam and smells, and a lot of warning signs about staying on the pathways so you don't sink through the thin crusts onto boiling hot water... I was contemplating about walking off the evelavated pathway to get a better shot of one of the geyshers, but then I thought better of it :P
Awesome colors in some of these hotsprings
A natural hot water fountain
A smell of something rotten
A beautiful jade in the mountains
On the way out of the park, a group of Bisons just taking it easy on the road. I did say sorry about Bison pictures... I promise you won't see them again (just a couple more on the next batch of pics, I PROMISE)
Slow and steady through the wind
Tough life makes us thickly skinned
Our features, our stories, of where we've been
Shapes our body, from within
